BACK IN TIME FOR THE CORNER SHOP

i spent nine weeks working on Back In Time for the Corner Shop which was produced by Wall to Wall Media for BBC Two. The Back in Time... series is a living history programme where a family go back in time to live through different decades. This series was based on the history of the corner shop and was set in Sheffield.  I worked as a Graphics Assistant on this project and was responsible for assisting the graphic designer by repackaging the vast majority of the products which can be seen in the shop to be accurate with each decade. Below you can find images of what the shop looked like through each decade and you can see the quantities and style of the products which I was responsible for repackaging.

VICTORIAN ERA: Above you can see a frame from the Victorian Era  of Back in Time for the Corner Shop and the vast variety of products which had to be repackaged and made from scratch in some cases to be accurate with how a corner shop would have look in Victorian Britain.

1920's: Above you can see a frame from the 1920's shop interior in Back in Time for the Corner Shop and the products which we made for this era, this included a lot more tinned products, which all had to be repackaged with labelling from the correct era.

1930''s: and 1940's: Above you can see a frame from the 1930's  and 1940's episode of Back in Time for the Corner Shop and explored what the corner shop would have been like in war time Britain and explored the idea of rationing and reductions in the amounts of products which were available due to rationing and price inflation.

1950's and 1960's: Above you can see a frame from the 1950's and 1960's shop interior in Back in Time for the Corner Shop and an increase in products from the 1930's and 40's period because rations were starting to be lifted. This also included a return of sweets and a lot of familiar brands which still exist today.

1970's: Above you can see a frame from the 1970's shop interior in Back in Time for the Corner Shop which saw another increase in the shops product content including a larger shop and smaller living space as well in also included relabelling bottles of alcohol and chocolate bars with packaging from the era but also saw an increase of toys for children etc.

1980's and 1990's: Above you can see a frame from the 1980's and 1990's shop interior in Back in Time for the Corner Shop and the products which we made for this era, all of the products you can see here were made from scratch to represent the packaging from the time. It also included more items recognisable from today such as Pot Noodles, popular cereal brands and many other recognisable brands.
